The Hamptons Real Estate Blog

Why is there a Blog on The Hamptons Real Estate Website?

News reporting seems to be covered with stories about people who are blogging events. We see rows and rows of people with their laptops sitting and typing away. This happened last year at the Academy Awards ceremony. Often there are those who go on adventures and blog what happens so everyone else can experience it with them. Recently, a man climbed Mount Everest and blogged his journey every day. There are those working on projects that blog the status of the projects or blog a discussion of an idea addressed in the project. Developers from Microsoft do this for the future Office and Operating System projects. There are bloggers who use the medium to express their creativity. Songs, poems, and art work are often seen in blogs, when they are not using MySpace. There are bloggers who log their daily life. “I can’t believe what ’so-and-so’ did today….”, is seen in a large percentage of blogs. Then, there are those that use blogging to facilitate the understanding of important issues.

This last type of blogger is the type that blogs on TheHamptonsRe.com.  All entries in the blog on TheHamptonsRe.com are written by those who feel the need to express how they see things. All expression is from the bloggers point of view. This unique perspective can often provide an understanding of issues and ideas that are more comprehensible than what can be conveyed through straight information alone.

Here is what a blog is: A blog is a cross between reporting and opinion. It is logging information from an individual’s point of view. Facts are present, but the meaning of the facts is also present. Often in a blog meaning is conveyed and the facts are inferred. Either way, it provides a vehicle for the insightful expression of ideas.

One important part of Blogs that makes them different from plain web pages is RSS syndication. When a blog is published, notifications are sent to blog distribution servers. People can register with these distribution sites. They specify subjects that they are interested in, and when a blog is posted that contains that subject they are notified that it exists and a link is given to where they can read it. Individuals can also register on the blog site itself. If there is a new blog it will send notifications that a new blog is available. This second type is called RSS and is supported by the latest Internet browsers.

The word BLOG comes from the original term of We(B) (LOG)ging. It was called web logging when people were logging their points of view on their web pages. The name was shortened soon after RSS was accepted. After this, blogging became very popular.

I am sure this feature will become the most interesting part of the site, and one of the best reasons to keep coming back.
