5 Things to do with toothpicks... Temporarily save your glasses - Slide a piece of toothpick into the screw hole; add tape to hole things together. Decorate a cake - prevent mistakes by lightly sketching your letters and flowers in the frosting with a toothpick before you pick up that piping bag. Prevent shredded tape - stick a toothpick tothe cut end of packing tape so you can find it next time. Fill in small scratches - next time you have a scratch that you want to fill with paint, putt or varnish, use a toothpick to spread it along the scraped area. Plug a garden hose leak - break off a thirst of a toothpick and slide it into the hole until the edge is flush. Wrap waterproof tape around the hose to secure.
Solution: Take 20 Minutes - Get a jump on Spring gardening by prepping your supplies. Protect woodeen-handled tools from cracking with a coat of linseed oil. Clean dirt and salt stains from terra cotta pots by soaking in a solution of 9 parts warm water to 1 part chlorine bleach for a few minutes, then scrubbing with a wire brush.
Things to do with Table Salt: - Remove Odors from your Hands Dip your fingers in salt moistened with vinegar and rub together to remove smells left by garlic and other spices. De-ice your doorway keep a container of it near the front door, sprinkle over the front steps to prevent icy falls. Set Tie-Dye After creating your masterpiece, soak it in a mixture of 2 cups warm water to 1/3 cup salt for 20 minutes so colors won't run in the wash. Scrub away Kitchen Grease Stains Just sprinkle salt on the stain and wipe with a sponge.
Don't want your jeans to fade? Turning them inside out before washing preserves their color. As for new jeans, wash them with older pairs so color bleeding from the new ones will be adsorbed by the old, making them look newer.
Bits and Tips and More!
Melt leftover chocolate to use for dipping strawberries, banannas, etc.
Prepare for winter: Have the chimney and furnace inspected and cleaned. Refasten or replace weather stripping around windows, doors and vents. Clean gutters after leaves are down. Check the car battery, brakes, defroster, heater and wipers.
Banking for Baby Wipes: Empty baby wipe containers make great piggy banks! The hole int he middle is perfect for dropping in handfuls of change, and the containers are strong enough to handle $75 worth of coins. The packaging also provides a perfect camouflage for what's really inside!
Lets Recycle More:
Sneakers - Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe Program accepts old sneakers *any brand) and recycles them into courts for various sports so kids around the world have a place to play.
Prescription Drugs: The Starfish Project collects some unused medications and gives them to clinics in Nigeria. They'll send you a prepaid FexEx label, too.
Wine Corks: To turn them into flooring and wall tiles, send them to Wine Cork Recycling, Yemm & Hart Ltd., 610 South Chamber Drive, Fredericktown, MO 63645. Or put them in a compost bin - they biodegrade.
VHS Tapes: To keep them out of landfills, drop them in the mail to Alternative Community Training, a nonprofit Missouri company that provides jogs to people with disabilities. Workers erase the tapes, reselling the ones that are in good shape and recycling the plastic parts of the rest. They've recycled more than 1 million tapes so far. Mail the tapes (at the chearper USSPS media mail rate) to ACT, 2200 Burlington, Columbia, MO 65202.
Wire Hangers: Tote wire hangers back to the dry cleaner's so that they can be reused or recycled. You'll be doing a good thing for the environment - 3.5 billion wire hangers end up in landfills every year and you'll reduce closet clutter, too.
Old Prescriptions: Don't toss medicine into the toilet! That pollutes the water. Government organizations say its best to take meds out of their original containers and mix with coffee grounds or kitty litter, which discourages people and pets from ingesting them. Put in a sealable bag or container to prevent leaking and place in the garbage.
Testimonials and Accolades
Dear Maureen:
"My husband and I purchased a house in September after searching for over a year. My first contact with Maureen Emmott and The Hamptons Real Estate was in the summer and I felt a sense of security with her. I knew from that first meeting she would take excellent care of us. Decisive I’m not; she was very patient with me and my husband as we looked at many different properties. Finally we decided on the perfect one and Maureen coordinated the transaction perfectly…I would highly recommend Maureen and The Hamptons Real Estate to anyone who was looking to buy or sell a house in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.
We also needed to sell a condominium in Massachusetts in order to purchase the home that we found. Being approximately two hours away from The Hamptons Real Estate, Maureen made the decision to refer the listing to a more local agent. My husband and I knew of a friend that was an agent in the lower part of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, this was a big mistake. Maureen researched the available agents and found us a local one that we were very happy with. We should have trusted Maureen to guide us correctly in the first place. We thank her for all of her help to make the purchase of our new home happen."

Dear Maureen:
"We met Maureen Emmott by sheer chance. I can only say that she was a Godsend! Whenever either one of us called her, she would basically drop what she was doing and help us with whatever we needed at that particular time – and we called her quite frequently. This was our first home and she was very patient and taught us what we needed to know. I would definitely seek to work with Maureen again."
